Alpine Monster Prato Orage

The Alps – Europe’s most formidable and loved mountain range. They pass through eight countries, France, Italy, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Slovenia and Monaco and are famously known its powdery ski-slopes and outrageously beautiful views. There is something for everyone to do in the Alps, be it mountain biking, rock climbing, trekking, skiing, just plain relaxing or even building a car.

Yes, you read the last one right. A small-time car maker, well when I write small time, I mean 2 people, Bruno Prata and Rudolph Tousette started a supercar company by the name of Prato Automobiles. They have their home in Bourg Saint Maurice on the French, Swiss and Italian border have come together to make a 900hp, all naturally aspirated supercar. They call it, “Orage,” which in French translates to Thunderstorm.

The chassis is based on a previous generation Corvette Nascar racing car and the engine from the same, is a 8.1 Liter eight cylinder that produces close to 900hp, supposedly the most powerful naturally aspirated engine made. Their idea of creating a gas guzzling monster in today’s electric vehicle scenario is to appeal to the purist enthusiast that still enjoys fiddling around with a dog leg gearbox as they have their foot buried into the metal.

We were called over to create some imagery for the Orage in it’s hometown in France. This year France went through a heat wave that was probably the highest ever recorded in it’s history. It was extra bright and hot, so we decided to photograph the car early in the morning and as the sun was setting.

One of the main techniques we used to capture the details of the car was the one light method. Where we could photograph in bright daylight using the strobe and the camera would capture only the flash of the strobe, creating a distinct high contrast effect, a great way to showcase the intricate details on this working prototype.
